Are QR codes a thing of the past in marketing?

QR codes have been around for over 30 years, would you believe that? They were developed in 1992 in an attempt to create an enhanced version of barcodes. About 20 years later, with the extensive use of smartphones, which have cameras, they became widespread and started to be used by the most innovative marketing.

For a while, a few years back, QR codes were thought to fade away, and some people considered them dead. However, social media has helped in the rise of QR codes (some widely used apps like Snapchat and Messenger integrated QR code features in 2016) and today, QR codes are far from disappearing. In fact, they became a very popular tool in the post-pandemic world.

In today’s blog we’ll go through 8 ways to use QR codes in the property industry in 2023, for both suppliers to the industry and agents:

  1. Property Brochures: Whether you’re an agent or a supplier, include QR codes on your service/product or property brochures or flyers that link to a mobile-friendly web page or landing page. Offer QR codes on welcome packs or emails that link to digital tenant or buyer guides, providing essential information on the property and the buying or renting process.
  2. Boost company web traffic: Potential lead clients can be diverted to your site from a QR code without typing a URL or using any search engine, and they can boost your traffic, your lead generation campaigns and sales opportunities. If you use a dynamic URL QR code, you can also track the activity, and get some insights of your effectiveness and marketing efforts.
  3. Virtual Property Tours and contactless viewing requests: For agents, QR codes lead to virtual property tours or 360-degree videos, allowing potential buyers or renters to explore properties remotely. These QR codes can also be placed on ‘For Sale’ or ‘To Let’ signs outside properties that can be scanned to request a viewing appointment or more information.
  4. Showcase properties, or products and services for agents: It’s widely known that potential buyers rely on images and demos to help make buying decisions. This is not an exception for agents, and an eye-catching and engaging image or video will make a big difference for a potential buyer when they request a viewing.
  5. Open House Events: Promote open house events with QR codes that provide details about the event, including date, time, location, and a link to RSVP.
  6. Mortgage Calculators: Offer QR codes on property brochures that link to mortgage calculators, helping potential buyers estimate their monthly mortgage payments for a property.
  7. Feedback Surveys: After property viewings, selling a product, or supplying a service, provide QR codes for feedback surveys. This can help you gather valuable insights from viewers or clients to improve your services.
  8. Share digital contact cards: QR codes are an advanced solution that can be used on business cards that, when scanned, store contact details, social media profiles, email addresses, websites, and more.

When using QR codes, it's crucial to ensure that the linked content is mobile-responsive, user-friendly, and regularly updated. Additionally, consider providing clear instructions on how to scan QR codes for those who may not be familiar with the technology. QR codes can streamline property marketing efforts and provide a convenient way for potential clients to access information, enhancing the overall customer experience.

They’re convenient, increase engagement, and are cost-effective and sustainable. They can be easily updated at any time too. For all these reasons, QR codes still play a very important role in property marketing nowadays.
