Don’t underestimate the importance of design in marketing

Very often, design is seen by decision-makers as the decorative part of branding, ignoring how crucial it is for every successful company, product, and marketing strategy.

The greatest minds behind Facebook, PayPal, or Apple, like Steve Jobs, have always stressed the importance of branding, which basically is how you market your product, service, or business with effective design.

Great design is massively effective and makes a huge difference. Today it is widely known, thanks to neuromarketing, that catchy, original, and creative designs remain in our subconscious, and have an impact on our buying decisions.

Good design helps brands make the right first move and first impression in communicating with their target audiences. The right use of your brand colours, assets, style, etc., helps present the content and the adverts in a balanced and more effective manner. Design is vital to strengthen the brand reputation and authority within the industry.

It also plays an essential role in your marketing efforts, and you should look after it as much as you look after other aspects of your marketing and your business.

Marketing and design go hand in hand to make memorable impressions and generate and drive results.

In a world where we are constantly bombarded with visual content, your business will need a high-standard design to stand out and communicate through it.

Wait… but I use Canva! What’s wrong with it?

Of course, there’s nothing wrong with Canva or other graphic design tools, many marketing professionals have been benefiting from this platform for years. However, it’s got its limitations, which shouldn’t be overlooked if you want a powerful, strong and recognisable brand identity and you want to stand out from your competition.

Some of the limitations and disadvantages of these tools or others like logo generators are:

  • Templates can be used by anyone else. Yes, also by your competitors. And yes, if people within the industry use Canva (which they do, most likely), they’ll know you’re using it too, as they’ll recognise the templates and the assets.

A professional designer will always create original and unique designs for your brand that reflect your brand identity, corporate values, and business personality.

  • Using a logo generator gives an unprofessional finish and reflects poorly on your brand.
  • Templates and logos lack originality and uniqueness. They can also be copied and manipulated.
  • The number of templates is always limited. You’re likely to reuse them a few times.
  • Exporting settings are limited, which restricts your options to provide different formats or sizes to partners, suppliers, etc.
  • You cannot download an editable version to your device, so can only rely on making changes on the platform where the asset was created.
  • The intellectual property belongs to these platforms, not to your business.
  • These platforms can delete your account at any time (do we ever read the Terms & Conditions?).

To be fair, no tool will ever be able to replace the education, skills and experience needed to be a creative and successful designer. While design tools and platforms might be useful for beginners, social media posts or small assets occasionally, you’ll need a designer for bigger, more detail-oriented projects, such as logo and brand identity design, roll-up banners, multipackage booklets or guides, eBooks, photo retouching, standard typography edits, or many other needs that business in the property industry have.

A professional designer has a vast knowledge of typography practices, colour theory, design psychology, psychology of colours, visual storytelling, UI/UX principles and so much more to deliver the highest standards and they will always guarantee the best technology and tools to work on your designs. They will think outside the box to provide a unique, customised, and recognisable brand identity, delivering bespoke work and telling the story of your brand.
